A new method for jitter decomposition through its distribution tail fitting

چکیده
media, reflections, cross-talk, electromagnetic interference (EMI), systematical modulations, and pattern dependency, for DJ; and thermal noise, shot noise, flick noise, random modulation, non-stationary interference, for RJ. In the real world applications, what is measured, in general, is the total jitter, namely both DJ and RJ are mixed together. To understand the root cause of the jitter, separating and identifying each jitter component is essential. As the speed for microprocessor, memory, data bus, and transmission media increases steadily, if not exponentially, failures caused by jitter will become more and more severe. Therefore, how to model, simulate, measure, and characterize jitter will become even more important and challenging for high-speed signals in the forth coming years.

Behaviors of Spike Output Jitter in the Integrate-and-Fire Model
We consider behaviors of output jitter in the simplest spiking model, the integrate-and-fire model. The full spectrum of behaviors is found: The output jitter is sensitive to the input distribution and can be a constant, diverge to infinity, or converge to zero. Exact formulas for the convergence or the divergence of output jitter are given. Our results suggest that the exponential distribution...
متن کاملA new Approach Versus Benders Decomposition in Aggregate Production Planning
This paper proposes a simplified solution procedure to the model presented by Akinc and Roodman. The Benders’ decomposition procedure for analyzing this model has been developed, and its shortcomings have been highlighted. Here, the special nature of the problem is exploited which allowed us to develop a new algorithm through surrogating method. The two methods are compared by several numerical...
متن کاملModeling of Jitter Characteristics for the Second Order Bang-Bang CDR
Bang-Bang clock and data recovery (BBCDR) circuits are hard nonlinear systems due to the nonlinearity introduced by the binary phase detector (BPD). The specification of the CDR frequency response is determined by jitter tolerance and jitter transfer. In this paper, jitter transfer and jitter tolerance of the second-order BBCDR are characterized by formulating the time domain waveforms. As a re...
متن کاملSimulation and Modeling of Packet Loss on VoIP Traffic: A Power-Law Model
In this paper, through an extensive analysis it is shown that VoIP traffic jitter exhibits self-similar and heavy-tail characteristics. From this analysis, we observed that α-stable distribution particularly gives the best goodness of fit; this fact has implications on the design of de-jitter buffer size. On the other hand, we investigate the packet loss effects on the VoIP jitter, and present ...
متن کاملSpike output jitter, mean firing time and coefficient of variation
To understand how a single neurone processes information, it is critical to examine the relationship between input and output. Marsalek, Koch and Maunsell’s study focused on output jitter (standard deviation of output interpike interval) found that for the integrate-and-fire (I&F) model this response measure converges towards zero as the number of inputs increases indefinitely when interarrival...
